But if you happen to be a binge eater you might be reading this with a certain dose of skepticism; and frankly, I don't blame you. I suspect that you have read every article on the subject and tried every diet as well as every miracle pill. And yet you are reading this, so my guess is that so far, nothing has worked and lasted. Are you a bit discouraged? I fully understand. I have been there and so have many of the people I have worked with. Thus I encourage you to open up your mind, release your judgment and read on to see how this article might give you a new perspective.How can I lose weight for good? The answer is obvious; you can lose weight for good by changing for good your eating habits. If you are a binge eater, you will have to eliminate binge eating urges, because your extra weight is merely a negative side effect of your binge and over eating. So the real concern is how to stop binge eating. Let's answer this challenging question by breaking it down one step at a time. Why do you find yourself eating too much? For one of my clients, Lisa, the answer was crystal clear: work related stress. During the day she was always busy and she was surrounded by co-workers, so she would eat small amounts of food, until she got home at night. It was during and after dinner that things would get tricky Cookies or ice cream would become like magnets: she just couldn't resist their pull. Her eating behavior was literally an "emotional barometer". If things in her life were on the good side, her eating was moderate. On the other hand, a big binge meant that an "emotional storm" was going on! I found this was true for many of my clients. Indeed, food allows you to change the way you feel. It literally changes your body chemistry. Food is also a pleasure. So when you feel down, you know that food can alter that state and even bring you pleasurable sensations. You end up eating more than your body really needs.Why is it so difficult to stop using food to feel better? First, because it works very well! At least it seems like it. Who wants to feel miserable, especially when you have the power to avoid it? Food is such an easy tool to use for coping with life's stress and challenges that it is almost irresistibly tempting to use it, even if after a while it becomes obvious that the adverse effects are serious and even life threatening.Second, because habits are tough to change. When you have been "unwinding with food" for quite some time you get some big momentum using food which is just hard to interrupt instantly.So what are the real options to eliminate binge eating?Changing Focus:Taking a hot bath or calling a friend. In other words: change your focus. I came across this kind of advice in magazines and books. And I agree that they can be helpful if you can implement them, which implies that you are very present and aware of what you are doing. But in a big emotional turmoil most people lose their grounding. They get into a zone where awareness is missing. So there is no way that they can grasp and follow the recommendation to change their focus.Developing Awareness:My intent through my work with www.Binge-Eating-Solutions.com is to prepare binge eaters and over eaters so they stay present and don't reach that Binge Zone. How do you do that? The key word is Awareness. When you are fully aware: you are non-judgmental, which automatically puts you in the present moment. Being judgmental implies that you intellectually process your life situation and generate positive or negative thoughts and consequently positive or negative emotions. That is when you feel compelled to act up. Let me illustrate this with an example of one of my clients. When Kristin came back from her party she was devastated. She had realized that very few people seemed to show interest in her, she had felt like an outsider all evening. And then it hit her, she was the heaviest woman in the room. That awful and scary thought prompted a terrible feeling of inadequacy, powerlessness and shame. Soon after, Kristin reached for the 2 pints of ice cream, switched on the TV and entered that binge zone where she entirely lost control over what she was eating What did happen to Kristin? It all started with a negative thought, leading to a judgment: "I am so fat that people don't even want to talk to me." This was the root of Kristin's emotional storm. Think of situations which trigger you to binge eat. What if, instead, you were not entertaining these negative thoughts? What if you were truly able to step outside of your judgmental mind? You would still intellectually process your life situation but this time without labeling it right or wrong, positive or negative. You would take the situation just as it is. In Kristin's case, being non judgmental would have translated into noticing what happens, accepting it and move on: "I haven't been talking to many people tonight; oh well, it was nice to get out anyway. I'd better go to bed since I need to get up early tomorrow morning." Such a simple shift of perspective allows you to stop your life from being this emotional rollercoaster which drains you so much and requires a way to cope with it like binge eating. But I hear you already "What if I realize that I have missed an important flight, or what if my boss fires me?" The concept stays the same and it is even more helpful when the situations get serious. Keep that bigger perspective and take things as they are. Why? Does breaking down, change the reality of your situation? Does throwing a tantrum at everyone's face empower you to deal with the situation in the best possible way? It generally makes it worse. Reality is what it is. Accepting reality as it is puts you in the NOW of your life, instead of in your head telling stories that are simply not true. Accepting reality instead of making up stories about the situation means that you are back in control, really living your life. Being truly aware will free you from the need to cope. Binge eating is about denial, about finding a way to make feelings less painful. As you accept what happens to you in your life and stay present with it, as you face the reality as it is, you see that it is not as scary and frightening as your mind lead you to believe. You will be in a position to react more efficiently. You'll become more grounded and confident in yourself. How can you get there? Outside support can facilitate the process but you need to know that you don't need anyone but You. Just tap into your inner wisdom and you'll know what feels right. The only obstacle which can block you is yourself. If you are sincere in this process you will be successful. How can I be so sure? Overeating, binge eating is about denial. If you are honest with yourself you look at the reality of what is and deal with it instead of looking for ways to cope.This is real. I wish you the best.

อีกทั้งพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชทรงใช้ภาษาในด้านการพระราชนิพนธ์ร้อยกรองคำอวยพรปีใหม่มอบแด่พสกนิกรชาวไทยทั้งประเทศซึ่ง ส.ค.ส.ฉบับแรกปี พ.ศ. 2529 เพื่อเป็น ส.ค.ส.พระราชทานปี พ.ศ. 2530 โดยพระราชทานให้แก่หน่วยงานและเจ้าหน้าที่ผู้เกี่ยวข้องที่ทำงานรับใช้ใต้เบื้องพระยุคลบาท โดยทรงพริ้นต์จากคอมพิวเตอร์และส่งแฟกซ์พระราชทานไปยังหน่วยงานโดยทั่วถึงกัน ส.ค.ส.พระราชทานแต่ละปี จะประมวลจากเหตุการณ์บ้านเมืองในรอบ 1 ปีที่ผ่านมา ด้วยถ้อยคำที่สั้นๆ แต่มากด้วยคุณค่าทรงเน้นในการเตือนและให้กำลังใจในการต่อสู้กับอุปสรรคต่างๆ ซึ่ง ส.ค.ส.ส่วนใหญ่ล้วนเป็นสีขาว – ดำ ทั้งสิ้น
ด้านวรรณกรรม ผลงานด้านวรรณกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวมีทั้งพระราชนิพนธ์ทรงแปลและพระราชนิพนธ์ทรงแต่งหลายเรื่องด้วยกันพระองค์ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์เรื่อง “ พระราชานุกิจรัชกาลที่ 8 ” ตามคำกราบบังคมทูลขอพระราชทานของหม่อมเจ้าหญิงพูนพิสมัย ดิศกุล ซึ่งพระราชนิพนธ์เรื่องนี้อยู่ในเรื่อง “ พระราชานุกิจ ” และทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้พิมพ์พระราชทานในการพระราชกุศล 100 วัน พระบรมศพพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรเมนทรมหาอานันทมหิดล ณ วันที่ 20 กันยายน 2489 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงแปลและเรียบเรียงบทความจากวารสารต่างๆ หลายเรื่อง

ในหลวงกับการศึกษาไทย

ตั้งแต่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช เสด็จเถลิงถวัลยราชสมบัติ เมื่อวันที่ ๙ มิถุนายน พุทธศักราช ๒๔๘๙ เป็นต้นมา พระองค์ทรงแสดงให้เห็นถึงพระราชปณิธานด้านการศึกษาที่เด่นชัด ดังจะเห็นได้จากพระราชดำรัส พระบรมราโชวาทซึ่งได้พระราชทานไว้ในวโรกาสต่าง ๆ และพระราชกรณียกิจที่ได้ทรงปฏิบัติไว้เป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งในที่นี้จะนำเสนอเพียงพระราชปณิธานที่สำคัญๆ ดังต่อไปนี้
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะพระราชทานการศึกษา เพื่อพัฒนาชีวิตราษฎร ทรงให้ความสำคัญต่อการพัฒนาพลเมืองให้มีคุณภาพด้วยการให้การศึกษา เพื่อให้สามารถพึ่งตนเองได้และมีฐานะความเป็นอยู่ดีขึ้น อันจะเป็นประโยชน์ทั้งส่วนบุคคลและประเทศชาติ ดังจะเห็นได้จากพระบรมราโชวาทด้านการศึกษาบางตอนที่ได้พระราชทานแก่คณะครูและนักเรียน ณ ศาลาดุสิดาลัยเมื่อวันที่ ๒๗ กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๔ ว่า
"…การศึกษาเป็นปัจจัยในการสร้างและพัฒนาความรู้ ความคิด ความประพฤติและคุณธรรมของบุคคล สังคมและบ้านเมืองใดให้การศึกษาที่ดีแก่เยาวชนได้ยอ่างครบถ้วนพอเหมาะกันทุก ๆ ด้าน สังคมและบ้านเมืองนั้นก็จะมีพลเมืองที่มีคุณภาพ ซึ่งสามารถธำรงรักษาความเจริญมั่นคงของประเทศชาติไว้และพัฒนาให้ก้าวหน้าต่อไปได้ตลอด"
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะจัดการศึกษาให้แก่ประชาชนอย่างทั่วถึงและมีคุณภาพ จึงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานที่ดินให้แก่กระทรวงศึกษาธิการสร้างโรงเรียนราชวินิตขึ้น ทรงอุปถัมภ์ โรงเรียนวังไกลกังวล ซึ่งจัดตั้งขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๘ ทรงส่งเสริมให้จัดตั้งศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน พระราชทานพระราชดำริและพระบรมราชานุเคราะห์ให้จัดตั้งโรงเรียนสงเคราะห์เด็กยากจน โรงเรียนร่มเกล้าโรงเรียนชาวเขาและประชาชนที่อยู่ห่างไกลการคมนาคม ให้จัดสร้างโรงเรียนราชประชานุเคราะห์ เสด็จฯ เยี่ยมโรงเรียนประถมศึกษาในท้องที่ห่างไกลและทุรกันดาร พระราชทานเครื่องเขียนแบบเรียน เสื้อผ้าแก่เด็กนักเรียน เครื่องอุปโภคบริโภคแก่ครูและพระราชทานพระราชทรัพย์ประเดิมตั้งมูลนิธิต่าง ๆ
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะให้เด็กได้เล่าเรียนต่อเนื่องกันไป ตั้งแต่ก่อนระดับประถมศึกษา ประถมศึกษา มัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น และมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย ในการดำเนินงานโครงการพัฒนาที่ดินตามพระราชประสงค์ทุกแห่งก็ได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้จัดตั้งโรงเรียนในลักษณะเดียวกัน พร้อมด้วยห้องสมุดที่ทันสมัย เพื่อบุตรหลานของประชาชนในศูนย์พัฒนาที่ดินฯ นั้น ๆ จะได้เข้าศึกษาเล่าเรียนทุกแห่ง และเพื่อให้การศึกษาของเด็กในชั้นประถมศึกษาเป็นไปด้วยดี ผู้ปกครองเด็กได้มีเวลาในการประกอบอาชีพเต็มที่ จึงได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ จัดตั้งศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กก่อนวัยเรียนขึ้นในโรงเรียนวังไกลกังวลและในศูนย์พัฒนาที่ดินอื่น ๆ ตลอดจนตำบลต่าง ๆ ใกล้ ๆ พระราชฐาน สำหรับการศึกษาระดับมัธยมศึกษาในรัชสนมัยได้เจริญก้าวหน้าเป็นลำดับ มีโรงเรียนเพิ่มขึ้นทั้งในกรุงเทพฯ และจังหวัดต่าง ๆ ไปถึงระดับอำเภอและระดับตำบล โรงเรียนมีขนาดใหญ่ขึ้น บางโรงมีนักเรียนในโรงเรียนถึงสามพันคน มีครูอาจารย์เป็นร้อยคน หลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนเปลี่ยนแปลง โดยเฉพาะมีการสอนวิชาชีพในโรงเรียนมัธยมเพิ่มขึ้น และพระราชกรณียกิจที่สนับสนุนพระราชปณิธานของพระองค์ในส่วนที่เกี่ยวกับการมัธยมศึกษา ได้แก่ การพระราชทานที่ดินสร้างโรงเรียน การเสด็จฯ เยี่ยมโรงเรียน และพระราชทานพระราชดำริในการดำเนินกิจการของโรงเรียน เป็นต้น
- พระราชปณิธานในการส่งเสริมการพัฒนาการฝึกหัดครู ครู และผู้บริหารการศึกษา พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงห่วงใยการฝึกหัดครูเป็นอันมาก ดังพระบรมราโชวาทที่พระราชทานแก่คณะข้าราชการที่รับผิดชอบต่อการฝึกหัดครูและคณะข้าราชการกรมการฝึกหัดครูที่เข้าเฝ้าฯ ณ พระตำหนักจิตรลดารโหฐาน เมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ กรกฎาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๕๑๓ ตอนหนึ่งว่า
"…โดยที่ครูต่างทำตัวให้เป็นครูที่น่าเคารพ แม้จะฝืดเคืองก็ยังกัดฟันสอนและแจกจ่ายความรู้ออกไป ดังนี้ก็จะได้ความเคารพจากศิษย์และการสอนก็จะง่ายขึ้น แต่ว่าต้องวางตัวให้เป็นครูที่แท้ การฝึกหัดครูจะต้องย้ำในข้อนี้ว่า ถ้าครุทำตัวเป็นครูจะทำให้ลูกศิษย์นับถือเป็นทุน แต่ว่าถ้าทิ้งความเป็นครูโดยที่ท้อใจ โดยที่ยอมแพ้สถานการณ์ก็ทำให้ลูกศิษย์มีความเคารพไม่ได้และสอนไม่ได้… ขอให้ทุกคนพยายามรักษาความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของการเป็นครูแล้วถ่ายทอดให้แก่ครกูที่ฝึกหัดอยู่เท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อให้บ้านเมืองเป็นบ้านเมือง ให้ประชาชนพลเมืองเป็นคน คือมีความรู้และมีจิตใจที่สูง ไม่เบียดเบียนกัน จะทำให้ส่วนรวมอยู่ได้เป็นปึกแผ่น ทั้งครูทั้งหลายก็จะนับว่าได้ทำหน้าที่อย่างกล้าหาญ อย่างฉลาดและจะเป็นความดีเป็นส่วนรวมของคณะครู… หน้าที่ที่ไม่ใช่หน้าที่ราชการหรือหน้าที่ที่ได้รับเงินเดือนตอบแทน แต่หน้าที่ในฐานะมนุษยชน เมื่อทำแล้วจะมีความพอใจได้ใช้ชีวิตในทางที่ถูก ก็การใช้ชีวิตที่ถูกนั้นอาจไม่รวยแต่จิตใจรวย…"
นอกจากนี้พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงห่วงในในความเป็นอยู่ทรงห่วงในในความเป็นอยู่ และการปฏิบัติหน้าที่ของครูอาจารย์เป็นอย่างมาก ดังจะเห็นได้จากการให้มีพระราชบัญญัติครู พุทธศักราช ๒๔๘๘ ได้บัญญัติให้มีสภาในกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ เรียกว่า คุรุสภา มีฐานะเป็นนิติบุคคลกำหนดให้ครูทุกคนเป็นสมาชิกของคุรุสภา ให้คุรุสภามีอำนาจหน้าที่ในการให้ความเห็นแก่กระทรวงศึกษาธิการในเรื่องการจัดการศึกษาโดยทั่วไป ควบคุมและสอดส่องจรรยา มารยาท และวินัยของครู พิทักษ์สิทธิครู รักษาผลประโยชน์และส่งเสริมให้ครูได้รับสวัสดิการต่าง ๆ และพัฒนาความรู้ความสามารถแปละประสิทธิภาพของครู และยังได้กำหนดให้การบริหารบุคคลของข้าราชการครูในสังกัดกระทรวงศึกษาธิการอยู่ภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของคณะกรรมการข้าราชการครู (ก.ค.) เป็นต้น
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะส่งเสริมการอาชีวศึกษาให้แพร่หลาย พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงสนพระราชหฤทัยการอาชีวศึกษาเป็นอย่างมาก ดังจะเห็นได้จากกระแสพระราชดำรัส และพระบรมราโชวาสที่พระราชทานในโอกาสต่าง ๆ ได้ทรงกล่าวถึงความสำคัญ ความจำเป็นของการอาชีวศึกษา ให้ตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของอาชีวศึกษาและส่งเสริมให้การอาชีวศึกษาแพร่หลายให้ได้รับความนิยมจากประชาชนเท่าเทียมกับสามัญศึกษา ได้เสด็จฯ เปิดงานและทอดพระเนตรการจัดแสดงศิลปหัตถกรรมต่าง ๆ ของนักเรียนเกือบทุกปีที่มีการจัดในกรุงเทพมหานคร นอกจากนี้ในด้านการสนับสนุนส่งเสริมวิชาช่างฝีมือ มีพระราชดำรัสแนะนำไว้ ๓ ประการ คือ
"ประการแรก… ต้องให้ความรุ้ทางหลักวิบาการและความรู้ทางการออกดแบบ เพราะสิ่งนี้เป็นหัวใจของงานฝีมือในอันที่จะสร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะใหม่ ๆ ขึ้น ศิลปินและนักออกแบบจะเป็นผู้ให้ความคิด จากนั้นจึงใช้ความรู้ทางหลักวิชาการทำความคิดนั้นมาประดิษฐ์ผลงานต่อไป ประการที่สอง จะต้องปรับปรุงฝีมือให้มีความประณีตและมีประสิทธิภาพได้มาตรฐานจริง ๆ ในยามที่ประชาชาติต่าง ๆ ในโลกกำลังขวนขวายยกระดับชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของตน มนุษย์เจริญขึ้นก็ใฝ่หาสินค้าและบริการได้มาตรฐานสูงขึ้นด้วย ประการที่สาม จะต้องมีการจ้างงานและหาตลาดเพื่อช่วยให้ช่างฝีมือได้มีงานทำ มีตลาดที่จะส่งสินค้าไปจำหน่ายการทำงานของช่างฝีมือขึ้นอยู่กับความต้องการของผลิตผลและบริการในตลาด เมื่อปรับปรุงรูปแบบคุณภาพและฝีมือดีขึ้น ย่อมทำให้เกิดความต้องการตามมาอันจะเป็นผลให้เผยแพร่ได้สะดวกยิ่งขัน เพราะสินค้าดีใคร ๆ ก็ย่อมนิยมใช้ แต่ถ้าราคาและคุณภาพไม่ได้มาตรฐานแล้ว ก็ยากที่ประชาชนจะนิยมตาม…"
- พระราชปณิธานในการขยายการศึกษาภาคบังคับให้ทั่วทั้งประเทศ หม่อมหลวงปิ่น มาลากุล ได้กล่าวถึงพระมหากรุณาธิคุณเกี่ยวกับการขยายการศึกษาภาคบังคับ ไว้ตอนหนึ่งว่า
"…มีข้อสังเกตในเรื่องนี้ คือ โรงเรียนเพิ่มขึ้น ตลอดจนในท้องที่ไกลคมนาคม เช่น โรงเรียนชายแดนของตำรวจชายแดน เป็นต้น อยู่ห่างไกลมาจนแม้ผู้ตรวจการศึกษาก็ไปไม่ถึง ผู้ที่เยี่ยมโรงเรียนเหล่านี้บ่อยครั้ง คือ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว สมเด็จพระบรมราชินีนาถ และสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนี พระราชกรณียกิจเช่นนี้ นับว่าเป็นการส่งเสริมการศึกษา ณ ที่ที่ต้องการมากที่สุด นอกจากที่ได้ทรงเยี่ยมเยียน ทำให้ครูนักเรียน ตลอดจนผู้ปกครองปลื้มปิติแล้ว ยังได้พระราชทานอุปกรณีการศึกษา เสื้อผ้า และอาหารด้วย เป็นพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอย่างล้นพ้น นอกเหนือไปจากนี้ เมื่อท้องที่แห่งใดแห่งหนึ่งประสบภัยธรรมชาติ ก็ได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ส่งเจ้าหน้าที่ไปเยี่ยมเยียนด้วยความห่วงใย ในกรณีจังหวัดในภาคใต้ประสบวาตภัยครั้งร้ายแรง เมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๕ โรงเรียนพังทลาย ยังได้พระราชทานพระราชทรัพย์ไปสร้างโรงเรียนกว่า ๑๐ หลัง จากเงินซึ่งเป็นพระราชทรัพย์ส่วนพระองค์และเงินซึ่งประชาชนโดยเสด็จพระราชกุศลสมทบเป็นจำนวนมาก วิธีการเพิ่มโรงเรียนที่ใช้อยู่วิธีหนึ่ง คือ รับความช่วยเหลือจากประชาชนในท้องที่ ถ้าผู้ใดบริจาคเงินเพื่อสร้างโรงเรียนจำนวนเท่าใด รัฐบาลจะออกเงินสมทบอีกจำนวนหนึ่ง มากบ้าง น้อยบ้าง ตามความจำเป็นและกำลังงบประมาณ ในทำนองเดียวกันนี้ แต่ไม่เหมือนกันทีเดียว พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานที่ดินแปลงหนึ่งทางทิศใต้ของพระราชวังดุสิต และพระราชทานทรัพย์จำนวนหนึ่ง เพื่อจัดสร้างและดำเนินการโรงเรียนประถมศึกษา พระราชทานชื่อว่า โรงเรียนราชวินิต เสด็จฯ ไปทรงเปิดโรงเรียนนี้เมื่อวันที่ ๑๘ มิถุนายน ๒๕๑๐"
และในพุทธศักราช ๒๕๓๐ อันเป็นปีที่มีการเฉลิมฉลองวโรกาสมหามงคลพระชนมพรรษาครบ ๕ รอบ กระทรวงศึกษาธิการได้เริ่มดำเนินการเพื่อขยายการศึกษาภาคบังคับเป็น ๙ ปี คือ จะขยายไปในชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น โดยให้นักเรียนในท้องที่ชนบทยากจน ๓๘ จังหวัดได้เล่าเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น โดยไม่ต้องเสียเงินบำรุงการศึกษา หรือ ค่าเล่าเรียน และยังจะได้รับบริการจากรัฐในด้านแบบเรียนและอุปกรณ์การศึกษาอื่น ๆ ตามกำลังงบประมาณด้วย
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะให้วัดและพระสงฆ์ได้มีส่วนช่วยเหลือการศึกษาของชาติ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว มีพระราชประสงค์ที่จะตั้งโรงเรียนสงเคราะห์เด็กยากจนและกำพร้าอนาถาขึ้นในวัด โดยอาราธนาพระสงฆ์มาเป็นครูอบรมศีลธรรมและช่วยสอนวิชาสามัญที่ไม่ขัดต่อพระธรรมวินัยเพื่อให้วัดและพระสงฆ์ได้มีส่วนช่วยเหลือการศึกษาของประเทศชาติ โรงเรียนวัดที่ตั้งขึ้นในช่วงแรก ๔ โรง ได้แก่ โรงเรียนวัดศรีจันทร์ประดิษฐ์ โรงเรียนวัดสันติการาม โรงเรียนวัดป่าไก่ และโรงเรียน นันทบุรีวิทยา เป็นต้น
- พระราชปณิธานในการให้การศึกษาแก่เด็กที่ประสบภัยธรรมชาติ และประชาชนที่ยากไร้พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ได้จัดตั้งกองทุนสำหรับสงเคราะห์เด็กยากจนอนาถาขาดบิดามารดาเนื่องจากการประสบภัยธรรมชาติ โดยโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ตั้งชื่อว่า "มูลนิธิราชประชานุเคราะห์" นอกจากผุ้ประสบภัยแล้วในท้องที่บางจังหวัดในภาคใต้ที่มีประชาชนยากจนไม่สามารถช่วยเหลือตนเองได้ ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ใช้รายได้จากดอกผลของมูลนิธิฯ ไปก่อสร้างโรงเรียนประถมศึกษาขึ้น และพระราชทานชื่อใหม่ว่า "โรงเรียนราชประชานุเคราะห์"
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะให้ประชาชนในจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ โดยเฉพาะจังหวัดปัตตานี ยะลา และนราธิวาส สามารถพูดภาษาไทยได้ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ได้พระราชทานพระราชดำรัสในคราวเสด็จฯ เยี่ยมราษฎรจังหวัดยะลา ณ คุรุสัมมนาคาร ภาคศึกษา ๒ (สำนักงานศึกษาธิการเขต เขตการศึกษา ๒ ในปัจจุบัน) เมื่อวันที่ ๒๓ มีนาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๕๐๒ ตอนหนึ่งว่า
"…การศึกษาที่นี่สำคัญมาก ให้พยายามจัดให้ดี ให้พลเมืองสามารถพูดภาษาไทยได้ แม้จะพูดได้ไม่มากนักเพียงแต่พอรู้เรื่องกันก็ยังดี เท่าที่ผ่านมาคราวนี้มีผู้ไม่รู้ภาษาไทย ต้องใช้ล่ามแปลควรให้พูดเข้าใจกันได้ เพื่อสะดวกในการติดต่อซึ่งกันและกัน…"
ประชาชนในจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ โดยเฉพาะในจังหวัดปัตตานี ยะลา และนราธิวาส นับถือศาสนาอิสลาม และใช้ภาษามะลายูท้องถิ่นในชีวิตประจำวันส่วนใหญ่ ในการติดต่อกับทางราชการหรือทางราชการจะให้ข่าวสารไปถึงประชาชน ก็ต้องใช้การแปลกันเป็นเรื่องสำคัญ กระทรวงศึกษา ธิการจึงได้ถือพระราชดำรัสที่ได้เชิญมานี้เป็นเป้าหมายในการจัดและพัฒนาการศึกษาในจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้หรือในท้องที่ที่ได้จัดเป็นเขตการศึกษา ๒ ซึ่งได้แก่ท้องที่จังหวัดยะลา ปัตตานี นราธิวาส และสตูล ตั้งแต่พุทธศักราช ๒๕๐๒ เป็นต้นมา
- พระราชปณิธานในการจัดการศึกษาพิเศษและการศึกษาสงเคราะห์ เพื่อให้ประชาชนทุกหมู่เหล่าได้รับการศึกษาโดยทั่วถึง โดยเฉพาะเด็กพิการต่าง ๆ เพื่อให้สามารถอยู่ร่วมกับคนปกติ มีชีวิตที่เป็นสุข ช่วยตัวเองได้ และสามารถทำประโยชน์แก่สังคมได้ จากพระราชปณิธานจึงได้มีการจัดตั้งโรงเรียนสำหรับคนหูหนวก คนตาบอด ขึ้น นอกจากนี้ยังได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้จัดตั้งโรงเรียนกินนอนสำหรับบุตรผู้ป่วยโรคเรื้อนขึ้นที่โรงเรียนราชประชาสมาสัย เมื่อพุทธศักราช ๒๕๐๗
- พระราชปณิธานที่จะให้ความรู้ในด้านต่าง ๆ แก่เยาวชนให้กว้างขวาง นอกเหนือจากการเรียนรู้ในชั้นเรียน จากพระราชปณิธานนี้ จึงทำให้เกิดโครงการสารานุกรมสำหรับเยาวชนขึ้น โดยได้พระราชทานพระบรมราโชวาทเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ตอนหนึ่งว่า

คำสอนของพ่อเรื่อง “เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง”

วิกฤต...อะไรที่ควรทำ อะไรที่ควรเว้น
ในระยะนี้ที่บอกว่าเป็นระยะวิกฤตก็ต้องพิจารณาอยู่เสมอว่า “อะไรที่ควรจะทำ อะไรที่ควรจะเว้น” ที่ท่านเห็นอยู่บนเวทีนี้คงแปลกใจ ทำไมจะมาตี “กลองยาว” หรืออย่างไร แต่ว่าข้อสำคัญหีบที่ใส่กลองยาวนี้เห็นได้ชัดว่า เขียนว่า “เมดอินไทยแลนด์”
เมดอินไทยแลนด์นี่จะเป็นประโยชน์ ถ้าเรามาใช้ของไทย ซื้อของไทย เที่ยวเมืองไทย กินข้าวไทย อันนี้จะได้ประโยชน์ แต่ว่าก็ไม่แก้ปัญหา ปัญหามีอยู่ว่า เมื่อผู้ที่ทำกลองนี้เขาเป็นบริษัท เป็นร้านที่นำเข้าสินค้าที่เขาขาย เขาบอกแย่ เพราะเขานำเข้ามา ก็ต้องเสียเงินแพง และต้องขายในราคาเดิมที่มีการตกลงว่าจะขาย เขาบอกขาดทุน แต่เขามีความคิดอยู่ เขาสามารถที่จะผลิตกลองนี้และส่งนอก ส่งไปที่อเมริกาส่วนหนึ่ง ส่งไปที่ยุโรปส่วนหนึ่ง และเขาทำงานหนัก ก็เพิ่งได้ส่งไป หมายความว่า เขาถัวกับที่เขาสั่งเข้า เขาถัวไปก็ยังพอไปได้ ถ้ากลองนี้เป็นที่นิยมมาก ก็สามารถที่จะมีกำไรและประเทศชาติก็จะมีกำไรไปด้วย
หมายความว่า การสั่งของจากต่างประเทศ มีความจำเป็นบ้างในบางกรณีแต่ก็สามารถที่จะส่งออกนอก ซึ่งผลิตที่ทำในเมืองไทย ไม้ที่ใช้ก็เป็นไม้ที่มีในเมืองไทย คือเป็นไม้ที่โดยมากก็ไม่ค่อยได้ใช้ ไม่ใช่ไม้ต้องห้าม อย่างที่เขาห้ามตัดป่าไม้ ไม่ใช่ไม้ที่เป็นป่าไม้ เป็นไม้ยางพารา ไม้ยางพาราที่ต้องเปลี่ยนเพื่อให้มีผลผลิตยางให้ดี เขาก็เปลี่ยน เขาก็ตัดยางเก่าเอามา โดยมากก็ไม่ได้ใช้มากนัก มาตอนหลังเขาใช้ทำเครื่องเรือน แต่สำหรับในกรณีนี้เขาลงไปภาคใต้ไปซื้อไม้ยางพารา มาด้วยตนเองแล้วมาทำกลองนี้ มีกลองแบบกลองยาวและมีกลองเล็กๆ ใช้ไม้ในเมืองไทย และที่ขึงหนังบนกลองก็เป็นสิ่งที่ผลิตในเมืองไทยเหมือนกัน เพราะฉะนั้นสามารถทำให้มีการส่งออกสิ่งของ ที่ทำด้วยวัตถุดิบในเมืองไทยและทำด้วยแรงงานของคนไทย อันนี้เป็นการแก้ไขสถานการณ์วิกฤตอย่างดี เป็นของเอกชน เขาทำเอง แต่ก็ต้องเหน็ดเหนื่อย เขาบอกเหนื่อยมากจะเป็นโรคประสาท เพราะว่าทำไม่ทันที่จะส่ง แต่เมื่อส่งแล้ว เขาก็มาพบและมามอบผลิตผลของเขา และบอกว่าสบายใจขึ้น อันนี้เป็นวิธีแก้ไข ที่เห็นเป็นประจักษ์ว่า ทำได้ แต่ต้องมีความเพียร ต้องมีความอดทน
ดังนี้ ทำให้ได้คิดว่า ทำไมวิกฤตการณ์เกิดขึ้นได้ เราเป็นเมืองอุดมสมบูรณ์ และเราได้ชื่อว่ากำลังก้าวหน้า ไปสู่เมืองที่เป็นมหาอำนาจทางการค้า ทำไมเกิดวิกฤตการณ์ ความจริงวิกฤตการณ์นี้เห็นมาแล้ว แต่ไม่รู้ตัวมา 40 กว่าปี เมื่อ 40 กว่าปี มีผู้หนึ่งเป็นข้าราชการชั้นผู้น้อยมาขอเงิน ที่จริงเคยได้ให้เงินเขาเล็กๆ น้อยๆ เขาบอกไม่พอ เขาก็ขอยืมเงิน ขอกู้เงิน ก็บอกเอ้าให้ แต่ขอให้เขาทำบัญชี บัญชีรายรับ บัญชีรายจ่าย รายรับคือเงินเดือนของเขา และรายรับที่อุดหนุนเขา ส่วนรายจ่ายก็เป็นของที่ใช้ในครอบครัว แต่มีสิ่งหนึ่งที่ครั้งนั้นไม่เข้าใจ ไม่เคยเห็น ไม่เคยทราบ คือมีรายการหนึ่งบอกว่า “ค่าแชร์” แล้วอีกตอนหนึ่งก็มีค่าแชร์อีก
ก็ถามเขาว่า “แชร์” คืออะไร ? เขาก็อธิบายว่า เป็นเงินที่จ่ายให้เจ้ามือทุกเดือน และเมื่อเดือดร้อนก็ขอประมูลแชร์ได้ แต่ประมูลนี้หมายความว่า สมมติแชร์ 100 บาท เขาจะได้รับคล้ายๆ เป็นเงินกู้ เงินควรจะเป็นเงิน 1,200 บาทในปีหนึ่งก็ควรจะดี แต่ว่าเขาไม่ได้ 1,200 บาท เขาได้ 800 บาท หรือ 700 บาท แล้วแต่ประมูลได้ แล้วคนที่มีเงินเขาไม่ประมูล เขาทิ้งไว้ในแชร์นั้น พอถึงเวลาเขา ก็ได้กลับคืนเงินมาเต็มเม็ดเต็มหน่วย
อย่างนี้ถามเขาว่า สามารถจะหมุนเงินนี้ได้หรือเปล่า ? ถามว่าทำไมแชร์แล้วยังซ้ำแชร์อีก เขาบอกว่า สำหรับจ่ายแชร์เดือนนั้น ต้องทำแชร์สัปดาห์ 7 วันนี้ เขาเปียแชร์มาเพื่อไปใช้ค่าแชร์เดือน เขานึกว่าเขาฉลาดและความจริงแชร์นี้ไม่ใช่เฉพาะคนนี้ทำ แต่ทั่วไปทุกแห่ง ทั้งราชการทุกกระทรวง ทบวง กรม ก็มี ทุกบริษัททุกส่วน แม้เอกชนก็มีแชร์ เลยบอกให้เขาเลิกแชร์และให้ทำบัญชีมา ทีหลังเขาทำบัญชีมา เขาไม่ขาดทุนแล้ว เขาสามารถที่จะมีเงินพอใช้ เพราะว่าบอกเขาว่า เรามีเงินเดือนเท่าไร จะต้องใช้ภายในเงินเดือนของเรา เพราะการทำแชร์เท่ากับเป็นการกู้เงิน กู้เงินนำมาใช้ในสิ่งที่ไม่มีรายได้ อันนี้เป็นข้อสำคัญ เพราะว่าถ้ากู้เงินและทำให้มีรายได้ก็เท่ากับจะใช้หนี้ได้ ไม่ต้องติดหนี้ ไม่ต้องเดือดร้อน ไม่ต้องเสียเกียรติ
มีอีกรายหนึ่งในระยะนั้นเมื่อ 40 ปีมาแล้ว เขาขอกู้เงิน 30,000 บาท เอาไปซื้อเครื่องมือ สำหรับตัดเย็บผ้าให้ภรรยาทำร้านก็ตกลงให้เขา ในที่สุดเมื่อเขาตั้งร้านแล้ว เขาก็เอาเงินมาคืน ทุกเดือนสม่ำเสมอ จนกระทั่งหมดจำนวนที่ได้ให้กู้ ด้วยความฉลาด ด้วยความซื่อสัตย์ของเขา รู้ว่ากิจการนี้จะทำให้มีกำไรได้ สามารถที่จะคืนเงินมาให้ครบจำนวนที่กู้ ต่อไปเป็นกำไรทั้งนั้นก็ชมเขาว่าดี คนนี้เขาเป็นคนซื่อสัตย์ ในที่สุดมาเป็นคนที่ช่วยในด้านช่างฝีมือ และได้รับใช้อย่างซื่อสัตย์จนกระทั่งถึงสิ้นอายุ
มีอีกรายหนึ่ง เขาเอาหัวเข็มขัดมาให้ เราถามว่าหัวเข็มขัดนี้เอามาให้ทำไม ในที่สุดทราบว่าเขาขอกู้เงิน อันนี้เป็นสิ่งที่ประหลาดเพราะว่าเขาไม่มีเงินใช้ ทำไมไปซื้อหัวเข็มขัดซึ่งก็ราคาไม่ใช่ถูก แล้วเอามาให้ เลยบอกเขาว่าไม่ให้ เพราะทราบดีว่าถ้าให้เขา เขาจะไม่มีเอามาใช้เรา กู้เงินจะให้เขาก็มี แต่ว่าถ้าให้เงินเขาแล้วก็ไม่มีผล คือเขาเอาไปใช้อีลุ่ยฉุยแฉก และไม่มีผลอย่างผู้ที่ขอกู้สำหรับทำอาชีพ จะกลายเป็นการทำให้คนเขายิ่งเสียใหญ่ อันนี้เป็นสิ่งที่จะต้องสอน กู้เงิน เงินนั้นจะต้องให้เกิดประโยชน์ มิใช่กู้สำหรับไปเล่นไปทำอะไรที่ไม่เกิดประโยชน์
อันนี้มีอีกคนหนึ่ง เขาจะแต่งงานและขอกู้เงิน เลยนึกว่าคนนั้นเขาทำงานมาดี น่าจะให้เหมือนเป็นรางวัลเขา ก็ให้เงินเขา 10,000 บาท สมัยโน้น 10,000 บาทมิใช่น้อย 10,000 บาทเพื่อไปจัดงานแต่งงานของเขา เขาก็ตกลงแต่งงานและยังไม่ได้คืนเงิน ไม่ค่อยถืออะไร เพราะว่าเขาแต่งงาน เขามีความสุขก็ดีไป เขาทำงานได้ดี แต่หารู้ไม่สักปีสองปีให้หลัง เขามาขอเงิน 30,000 บาท ก็บอกเอ๊ะ ! 30,000 บาท เอาไปทำอะไร เขาบอกว่า เมื่อแต่งงาน เงินเขาไม่พอ เลยไปกู้เงินที่อื่นมา แต่ใช้คืนไม่ได้เลยต้องเสียดอกเบี้ย จนกระทั่งใช้คืนเงินต้นหมดแล้ว ต้องใช้ดอกเบี้ยจำนวนนั้นด้วยคือ 30,000 บาท ไม่นับ 10,000 บาทที่เราให้เขาไปแล้ว หมายความว่า ไปติดนุงนัง หนี้ไม่สามารถที่จะใช้ ไม่รู้ว่าจะทำอย่างไร
ได้รู้อีกว่า ถ้าไม่ได้อย่างนี้เขาจะฆ่าตัวตาย เพราะว่าไม่มีทางออก เงินเดือนเขาไม่พอจะใช้หนี้ ดอกเบี้ยจะเพิ่มขึ้นทุกครั้งที่ต้องจ่ายดอกเบี้ย เพราะว่าต้องติดอีกต่อไปทบต้น ก็เห็นว่าครั้งแรกเขายืมเงินสำหรับแต่งงานน่าจะมีความสุข กลับมีความทุกข์ เลยไหนๆ ให้ไป 10,000 บาท แล้วก็ให้ไปให้ครบที่จะไปใช้หนี้ได้ ลงท้ายเขาสามารถที่จะมีชีวิตต่อไปและทำงานได้ แต่คงเป็นบทเรียนที่ดี อันนี้หมายความว่า เขาขอเราก็ให้ เราจะได้ช่วยชีวิตเขา
มีอีกรายหนึ่งเป็นคนข้างนอกมาบอกว่า ลูกของเขาเจ็บตา ถ้าไม่ทำอะไรตาจะบอด เราก็สงสารเขา ให้เงินเขา 30,000 บาทเหมือนกัน ลงท้ายไม่ทราบว่าลูกเขาได้ไปผ่าตัดตาได้ผลดีอย่างไร แต่วันหนึ่งโผล่มาอีกทีบอกว่า รักษาตาลูกเรียบร้อยแล้ว แต่ขอบ้านอยู่ และบ้านนั้นเขาไปสืบเสร็จว่าบ้านนั้นว่าง แล้วมาขออยู่ฟรี เลยเลิกเลย เพราะเขาควรจะมีฐานะพอสมควรที่จะมีบ้านอยู่ บ้านที่ขอนี้นับว่าเป็นบ้านใหญ่ ถ้าขอบ้าน ถ้าให้บ้าน เขาก็ต้องมาขอค่าใช้จ่ายสำหรับบ้านอีก เมื่อบ้านใหญ่คงมีญาติมีเพื่อนมาอาศัยบ้านก็ต้องเสียเงินอีก เลยบอกว่าไม่ให้ ที่พูดว่าไม่ให้นั้น เรียกว่ามีความเดือดร้อนเหมือนกันที่จะพูดอย่างนั้น จะว่าสงสารก็สงสาร เวลาใครมาขออะไร แล้วไม่สามารถที่จะให้มันก็ไม่ค่อยสบายใจ ในที่สุดก็เงียบไป ข้อเหล่านี้ที่เล่าให้ฟัง เพราะว่าเป็นต้นเหตุของวิกฤตการณ์ในปัจจุบัน
ทำอย่างเหมาะสมกับอัตภาพ
ขอเล่านิทานอีกเรื่อง คือ ไปทางชลบุรีครั้งหนึ่งก็หลายสิบปีแล้ว มีพ่อค้าคนหนึ่งเขาบอกว่า เขาทำโรงงานสับปะรดกระป๋อง เขาลงทุนเป็นล้าน จำไม่ได้ว่ากี่ล้านเพื่อสร้างโรงงาน การลงทุนมากอย่างนั้นเลยบอกให้เขาทราบว่า ไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วย เพราะว่าเคยทำโรงงานเล็กๆ ที่ทางภาคเหนือใช้เงิน 300,000 บาท เพื่อที่จะเอาผลิตผลของชาวบ้านชาวเขามาใส่กระป๋องแล้วขาย ก็ได้ผลเพราะเป็นโรงงานเล็กๆ แต่โรงงานเขาเองลงทุนเป็นล้านรู้สึกว่าเสี่ยง เขาบอกว่า ต้องทำอย่างนั้น เขาก็ลงทุน ทำไปทำมาสับปะรดที่อำเภอบ้านบึงและที่ชลบุรีก็มีไม่พอ ต้องไปสั่งสับปะรดมาจากปราณบุรี ต้องขนส่งมา ต้องเสียค่าใช้จ่ายมาก ทำไปทำมาโรงงานก็ล้ม อย่างนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ทำโครงการอะไร ต้องให้นึกถึงขนาดที่เหมาะสมกับที่เรียกว่า อัตภาพหรือกับสิ่งแวดล้อม
รอบคอบและอย่าตาโต
นี่พูดไปพูดมายังคิดถึงอีกรายหนึ่งที่ลำพูน มีการตั้งโรงงานสำหรับแช่แข็งผลผลิตของชาวไร่ได้ไปเยี่ยม แล้วเขาบ่นว่า คุณภาพของข้าวโพดที่ใช้ใส่กระป๋องสำหรับแช่แข็ง คุณภาพไม่ค่อยดี เขาบอกว่าซื้อในราคาแพงไม่ได้ ตอนนั้นไม่ทราบว่าเขาจะมีอันเป็นอย่างไร ได้บอกเขาว่าน่าจะส่งเสริมให้เกษตรกรที่ปลูกข้าวโพด ให้ได้ข้าวโพดที่คุณภาพดี โรงงานจะเจริญ เขาบอกว่าให้ไม่ได้ เพราะว่าคุณภาพเขาไม่ดี อันนี้เป็นปัญหาโลกแตก ถ้าไม่ให้ราคาดี หรือไม่สนับสนุนเกษตรกรก็ทำให้ข้าวโพดคุณภาพดีไม่ได้
เรื่องนี้ตอนแรกอาจจะดูเหมือนขาดทุน ดูจะไม่ได้ประโยชน์ จะไม่ได้คุณภาพ จะได้ข้าวโพดที่ฟันหลอ ซึ่งเขาบอกเขาต้องทิ้ง เพราะว่าเครื่องจักรของเขาต้องมีข้าวโพดที่มีขนาดที่เหมาะสม เมื่อเป็นอย่างนั้น ความจริงไม่ได้แช่งเขา แต่นึกในใจว่าโรงงานอยู่ไม่ได้ และในที่สุดก็จริงๆ ก็ล้ม อาคารอะไรต่างๆ ยังอยู่เดี๋ยวนี้ แต่ไม่มีใครเป็นเจ้าของ เกะกะอยู่อย่างนั้น ฉะนั้นการที่จะทำโครงการอะไร จะต้องทำด้วยความรอบคอบและอย่าตาโตเกินไป
คือบางคนเขาเห็นว่า แม้มีโอกาสที่จะทำโครงการอย่างโน้นอย่างนี้ และไม่ได้นึกถึงว่าปัจจัยต่างๆ ไม่ครบ ปัจจัยคือ ขนาดของโรงงาน หรือเครื่องจักรที่สามารถจะปฏิบัติได้ แต่ข้อสำคัญที่สุด คือ วัตถุดิบ เอาวัตถุดิบมาแล้ว ไม่สามารถที่จะให้ค่าตอบแทนกับเกษตรกรที่นำวัตถุดิบมาส่ง ยิ่งถ้าวัตถุดิบสำหรับทำในโรงงานนั้นเป็นวัตถุดิบที่ต้องนำเข้าก็ยิ่งยาก เพราะว่าวัตถุดิบที่นำเข้านั้นราคาไม่สม่ำเสมอ บางปีวัตถุดิบนั้นบริบูรณ์ราคาอาจจะต่ำลงมา แต่เวลาจะขายสิ่งของที่ทำที่ผลิตจากโรงงาน หรือจากกิจการก็ขายยากเหมือนกัน เพราะมีมากจึงทำให้ราคาตก อันนี้เป็นกฎเกณฑ์ที่ต้องมี
ข้อสำคัญอยากจะพูดถึงว่า ถ้าหากว่าเราทำโครงการที่เหมาะสม ขนาดที่เหมาะสม อาจจะไม่ดูหรูหรา แต่ว่าจะไม่ล้ม หรือถ้าล้มถ้ามีอันตรายไปก็ไม่เสียมาก เช่น โรงงานกระป๋องที่ริเริ่มทำที่อำเภอฝางนั้น วันหนึ่งเขาติดต่อมาบอกว่าน้ำท่วม น้ำจากเขาลงมาพัดโรงงานเสียหาย เลยบอกว่าไม่เป็นไรจะสนับสนุนเงินเพิ่มเติม เพราะที่ดินตรงนั้นซื้อแล้ว เครื่องมือเครื่องใช้ก็ไม่เสียหมด ก็สนับสนุนเขาอีก 400,000 ก็ตั้งขึ้นมาใหม่ต่อไป ก็ใช้งานได้มีกำไร อันนี้หลายปีมาแล้ว
เศรษฐกิจแบบพอเพียง
มาใหม่ๆ นี้ โครงการต่างๆ ก็เกิดขึ้น โรงงานก็เกิดขึ้นมาก จนกระทั่งคนเขานึกว่าประเทศไทย เป็นเสือตัวเล็กๆ และเป็นเสือตัวโตขึ้น เราไปเห่อว่าจะเป็นเสือ ความจริงเคยพูดเสมอในที่ประชุมอย่างนี้ว่า การจะเป็นเสือนั้นมันไม่สำคัญ สำคัญอยู่ที่เราพออยู่พอกิน และมีเศรษฐกิจการเป็นอยู่แบบพอมีพอกิน แบบพอมีพอกินหมายความว่า อุ้มชูตัวเองได้ให้มีพอเพียงกับตัวเอง อันนี้เคยบอกว่า ความพอเพียงนี้ไม่ได้หมายความว่า ทุกครอบครัวจะต้องผลิตอาหารของตัว จะต้องทอผ้าใส่ให้ตัวเองสำหรับครอบครัว อย่างนั้นมันเกินไป แต่ว่าในหมู่บ้านหรือในอำเภอจะต้องมีความพอเพียงพอสมควร บางสิ่งบางอย่างที่ผลิตได้มากกว่าความต้องการก็ขายได้ แต่ขายในที่ไม่ห่างไกลเท่าไร ไม่ต้องเสียค่าขนส่งมากนัก
